Welsh Rugby

So it’s that time of year again… Spring is looming in the air and Welsh spirit is all around. However, one thing is missing this year, the pubs. Is it just us Welshies that absolutely love sitting in a pub surrounded by pints, screaming ‘GWLAD, GWLAD’ at the top of our lungs while wearing a jersey? As much as we’d all love to be spending our weekends this way, sadly Coronavirus has other plans.

The pubs may be out of the question this year, but this doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy ourselves! Why not have a ‘party’ within your household? Host a virtual cocktail night with some friends? With more online platforms being launched over the past year, it’s never been easier to get your pals together on a video call.

Now, of course not all of us are mixologists and cocktail connoisseurs, so we’ve popped together a list of easy, at-home cocktails with ingredients you probably already have in your alcohol cupboard. Oh… and we’ve kept it to a red theme keeping in with the spirit of Rugby yn Cymgraeg. Check out our top 5 easy, at home cocktails to celebrate the Welsh wins at the 2021 Six Nations below.

Red Dragon

30ml Gin | 30ml Grand Marnier | 25ml Orange Juice | 25ml Lemon Juice | 30ml Grenadine

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with a slice of blood orange if you’re feeling extra.

Strawberry Daiquiri

Now you’ll need a blender for this one, but it’ll be totally worth it.

500g Strawberries | 200g Ice | 100ml Rum | Juice 1/2 Lime

Add the strawberries to a blender, once smooth, push through a sieve to remove the seeds. Then blend again with the ice, rum and lime juice. Serve in a glass with an extra strawberry for garnish!

Strawberry Daiquiri

Raspberry Mojito

1/2 Lime | 40g Raspberries | 2 Mint Sprigs |2 tsp Sugar | 50ml Rum | Soda Water

Add the lime, raspberries, mint leaves and sugar to a glass and muddle together (use the end of a wooden spoon if you don’t have a muddler at home!). Top with ice, pour in the rum and give it a good stir. Top with soda water and garnish with a mint spring!

Tip: A Pop Up Bar Hire Co. personal favourite rum for mojitos is Barti Spiced, it adds an extra little something to the taste… you can thank us later.

Raspberry Mojito

Cosmopolitan

The way to invisage yourself sipping cocktails in Manhattan with Carrie Bradshaw and the gang… when in reality you’re probably sat on your sofa watching the Wales team throw around a rugby ball.

45ml Vodka | 15ml Cointreau | 30ml Cranberry Juice | 10ml Lime Juice

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake over ice and strain into a martini glass. Add a slice of orange peel to the glass for garnish. Voila!

(Cardiff) Bay of Passion

For this one, you’ll need…

30ml Vodka | 30ml Passoa | 60ml Cranberry Juice | 60ml Fresh Grapefruit Juice

Shake it all together with some ice and strain into a glass, top with a mini Welsh flag for extra points.
